Ultrasound Preparation

Please bring your requisition with you for the examination. All examinations take approximately 30 minutes

Abdomen (Gallbladder, Liver, Spleen, Pancreas, and Aorta)
• Fat free dinner the night before (i.e. no meats, dairy products, oils, etc.).
• Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.

Pelvis and Obstetrics
• For two hours prior to the examination, you should not empty your bladder.  To fill the bladder, drink four large glasses (32 oz) of fluid (NO carbonated beverages or milk products) at least two hours prior to your appointment time and do not go to washroom.
• Patients in their last two months of pregnancy should drink two glasses of fluid two hours before their appointment.  Do not go to the washroom.

Kidney
• For two hours prior to the examination, you should not empty your bladder.  To fill the bladder. Drink two large glasses (16 oz) of water, two hours prior to the examination.  Do not go to the washroom.

Thyroid
• No preparation needed
